About This Service

It is much easier to lock things down now than to recover after something goes wrong

This is not an emergency visit. This is a planned, proactive check-up.

The Online Safety Tune-Up is for people who want to get ahead of problems before they happen. Maybe you know your passwords are not great. Maybe you have heard about two-step login but have not set it up. Maybe you just want someone to look everything over and tell you where you stand.

We visit your home in Ajax, Pickering, Whitby, or Oshawa and spend time reviewing your key accounts, devices, and habits. We make practical, straightforward changes that make you much harder to target.

If you have already been through a scam, the Tune-Up is also a great follow-up visit to make sure everything stays secure going forward.

Is This For You?

You might want a Tune-Up if...

  • Weak Passwords

You use the same password for most of your accounts.

  • No Two-Step Login

You have heard about two-step login but have not set it up anywhere.

  • Outdated Software

You are not sure if your phone or computer is running the latest software.

  • Spam Overload

You get a lot of spam and are not sure how to stop it.

  • Peace of Mind

You have a general feeling that you should be doing more to stay safe online but you do not know where to start.

  • Post-Scam Security

You went through a scam or security scare and want to make sure everything is locked down now.

Any one of these is a good reason to book a visit.

What We Cover

A thorough review, not a quick scan

  • Password review

We look at how you manage passwords and help you set up a password manager if you want one. We explain how it works clearly.

  • Two-step login setup

We turn on two-step verification on your email, banking, and other important accounts to make them much harder to break into.

  • Software update check

We make sure your phone, tablet, and computer are running the latest software. Outdated software is one of the easiest ways for problems to start.

  • Browser privacy settings

We review your web browser settings to reduce tracking and improve your privacy while browsing.

  • Spam filter setup

We help reduce the amount of junk and phishing emails that reach your inbox.

  • App permission review

We check which apps have access to your camera, microphone, contacts, and location, and help you turn off anything unnecessary.

  • Basic device security check

We make sure your device has appropriate protection in place and that settings are configured sensibly.

Our Approach

Practical safety, not paranoia

We are not going to make you feel like the internet is dangerous and you should be afraid. With a few sensible precautions, you can use the internet without worrying.

Our goal is to make simple changes that have a big impact. Most of the improvements we make during a Tune-Up take minutes but protect you for years.

You do not need to understand how everything works behind the scenes. You just need to know that your accounts are safer when we leave than when we arrived.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from Scam Recovery?

Scam Recovery is for after something has gone wrong. The Tune-Up is for before. Think of Scam Recovery as the emergency room and the Tune-Up as your annual check-up. Both are important, but the Tune-Up helps you avoid the emergency in the first place.

What is a password manager and do I really need one?

A password manager is an app that remembers all your passwords for you, securely. Instead of using the same password everywhere, you have one strong password that unlocks all the others. We set it up and show you how to use it.

What is two-step login?

Two-step login means that even if someone gets your password, they still cannot log in without a second step, usually a code sent to your phone. It is one of the most effective ways to protect your accounts and we set it up on all your important accounts during the visit.

How often should I do this?

Once a year is a good habit. Technology changes, new threats emerge, and accounts pile up. An annual Tune-Up keeps everything current and gives you peace of mind.
