For Families

Tech help for your parents and grandparents

Patient in-home visits across Durham Region for the people who raised you, and fewer of those phone calls for you.

Ajax, Pickering, Whitby, Oshawa, and the wider Durham Region. Retirement residences and care homes welcome.

Sound familiar?

Tired of being the family tech support?

The call about the printer that stopped printing. The one about the Wi-Fi that "just went off". The worried one about a pop-up that said the computer had a virus and gave a number to ring. You love them, and you want to help. But you are not there, you are not a technician, and talking someone through a settings menu over the phone is nobody's idea of a good evening.

We can be the number they call instead. Our technicians visit them at home, fix what is wrong, and explain it in a way that sticks, with the steps written down so it stays fixed after we leave. You get your evenings back, and they get help from someone who is patient because that is the job.

Our approach

How we work with seniors

Most of the people we help at home are over 65. This is how every visit runs.

We go at their pace

Nobody is rushed. If a step needs showing three times, we show it three times.

We explain in plain words

No jargon. We describe what is happening in everyday language and check it has landed before moving on.

We write it down

Before we leave, they get simple step-by-step instructions in large print for everything we set up or fixed.

We make things easier to use

Bigger text, fewer steps, clear icons on the home screen, and the apps they do not use tucked out of the way.

They always know who is at the door

Every technician carries a photo ID card and easyTech branding, and we contact them when we are on the way.

We check for scam risks

While we are there we look for remote-access tools, suspicious apps, and weak passwords, and set up basic protection.

Experience you can lean on

We have done this for a long time.

Our team has spent years helping seniors with technology, in their own homes, in long-term care and retirement residences, and through community organizations across Durham Region. We know the difference between a phone that is broken and a phone that is set up in a way nobody over 70 should have to live with, and we fix both. We are also glad to work with family and care staff together, so everyone knows what changed and what to do if it happens again.

If you run a long-term care home, a retirement residence, or a community group, we offer group sessions and on-site help. Get in touch to talk about what would suit your residents or members.

Give a visit as a gift

A gift that gets used.

A tech visit makes a practical gift for birthdays, Mother's Day, Father's Day, and the holidays. It is the present that ends with the photos finally backed up and the video calls actually working.

  1. Tell us who it is for

Their name, roughly where they live, and the occasion. You pay the flat fee for the visit you choose.

  2. We email you a gift card

A printable gift card arrives by email, usually the same business day, ready to tuck into a card or hand over.

  3. They book when it suits them

They call us when they are ready, and we arrange the visit directly with them. No expiry pressure.

  • Standard Visit, $89: one problem, about an hour
  • Extended Visit, $129: several problems or a new device setup, about two hours
  • Online Safety Visit, from $149: passwords, accounts, and scam protection
  • Travel across Durham Region included

"I live and work in Whitby and would highly recommend easyTech Durham. The technician was punctual and polite, and got my desktop and other devices running efficiently again at a fair price. I'm not that tech savvy, so he patiently explained every step."

FAQ

Questions families ask

Do I need to be there?

No. Many families book from another city and we handle the visit directly with the person we are helping. You are welcome to join by phone during the visit or be there in person, and we can send you a short summary afterwards if they are happy for us to.

Can you help if they live in a retirement residence or care home?

Yes. We visit retirement residences and long-term care homes across Durham Region regularly, and we are used to working alongside care staff and around the home’s routines.

Will they get instructions they can keep?

Yes. Before we leave, we write down the steps for whatever we set up or fixed, in simple numbered steps in large print, so they have something to follow after we have gone.

Can I book and pay on their behalf?

Yes. You can book and pay for the visit yourself, either as a gift or simply to take it off their plate. We confirm the appointment with them directly, and the flat fee is agreed before we start.
